Whether under the title of Psychotherapist, Organizational Consultant, Behavioural Change Coach, Speaker, Mindfulness Facilitator or Personality Type "Expert," the professional roles that I take on have a common foundation: to help people gain insight into themselves and their emotional, mental or behavioural lives, in order to get past the barriers that get in the way of living the life or achieving the success they desire.
As a psychotherapist, I has been in private practice since 2003, working with individuals and couples. As of early 2008, my practice has also included facilitation of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Programs for individuals, groups, and workplace settings. And, as of March 2017, I have attained the accreditation of Registered Psychotherapist, with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
Prior to my career change to the field of psychotherapy in 2003, I spent 15 years in the business and corporate world. My early career has provided me with a unique advantage: truly hands-on experience and understanding of the challenges which result from emotionally unconscious and inexperienced leadership, the difficulties of navigating corporate culture, and the effects of behavioural dysfunction in organizations on both business and mental health.
This background made understanding and working with individual and organizational behaviour a natural fit. Since 2003, I have worked as an Organizational/Behavioural Change Consultant and Leadership Coach with Caliber Leadership Systems and Sage, Kahuna Enterprises. In this role, I have worked to educate and develop self-awareness in leaders and teams, nationally and internationally, through assessment and development initiatives, and coaching programs.
As both therapist and consultant, I have worked extensively with Assessments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®), the Bar-On EQ-i® (emotional intelligence), and Temperament-based models (Keirsey, etc), in leadership coaching, candidate selection and developmental programs. This has allowed me to develop an in-depth knowledge of the use and application of these tools in many areas of life, including workplace, leadership, career, personal life and relationships.
Since 2009, I have been involved in the creation and development of the Striving Styles®Personality System (SSPS®). This personality and developmental system goes beyond other Personality Assessments, integrating aspects of emotional and social intelligence, needs and attachment theory, brain dominance theory, and current neuroscience on brain development.
As part of the SSPS developmental team, I have co-authored more than 100 books on personality type, and co-created training modules for individuals and practitioners. I am the first fully-licensed SSPS practitioner, which means I am able to train and qualify other practitioners worldwide to use this highly-effective tool.
I received my Specialized Honours BA in Psychology from York University, and completed professional training as a Psychotherapist at the Transformational Arts College in Toronto. I have received the designation of Registered in Human Relations (RIHR) from the Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners, and am a member of the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP). Further studies/training/certificate programs have been completed in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness and MBSR Facilitation, Hypnosis, Meditation and Guided Imagery, with ongoing studies in the area of the Brain and current Neuroscience. A qualified practitioner of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), I am able to administer any B level Psychological Assessments.
In addition to studies in psychology, my education also includes training as a Holistic Health Practitioner at the Transformational Arts College in Toronto, and I am a certified Aromatherapist (CAHT), Reflexologist and Reiki Master.
